AgentNotch + herdr
herdr runs a dozen coding agents in one terminal window. AgentNotch flags the one that needs you while you're in another app, and a click lands on that exact pane.
herdr is a terminal multiplexer built for coding agents. Instead of a window per agent you get one window of panes, each running its own Claude Code, Codex or Kimi, and a sidebar marking which are blocked, working or idle.
That fixes the window sprawl. It doesn't fix the fact that you're usually somewhere else while the agents run. The sidebar only answers "which one needs me" when you're already looking at herdr.
Where AgentNotch fits
AgentNotch puts that same question in the notch, where it's answered without switching apps. And it covers the agents herdr isn't holding, so a Cursor session, an agent in the Claude app, and six panes inside herdr all appear in one list rather than two places with different rules.
Nothing to configure. AgentNotch reads agent session state directly rather than watching terminal output, so a session in a herdr pane shows up exactly like one in a plain tab: project, branch, status, context left.
Clicking a row lands on the pane
This is the part a multiplexer makes hard. Every agent in herdr shares one tab of one terminal window, so bringing the terminal forward isn't enough by itself. You'd arrive on whichever pane you last left focused and still have to find the right one by hand.
So a click has three parts. AgentNotch asks herdr which pane is running that session and tells herdr to focus it. It selects herdr's own tab in your terminal. Then it raises the window. You land on the agent you clicked.
Focusing the pane changes nothing else. AgentNotch selects a pane that already exists, switching herdr tab and workspace if the agent sits in another one. Nothing is spawned or resumed.
If you've detached from herdr, the pane is still focused, so it's the one in front of you when you reattach. There's no window on screen to raise in that case, and AgentNotch doesn't invent one.
Setup

- Does AgentNotch work with herdr?
- Yes, with nothing to set up. AgentNotch reads agent session state directly rather than watching the terminal, so an agent in a herdr pane appears on its own, the same as one in a plain tab.
- Do I need to install herdr's Claude Code integration for this?
- No. herdr's integrations install hooks so that herdr can track agent state for its own sidebar. AgentNotch doesn't read them, and doesn't need them. If you already have them installed they sit alongside AgentNotch's without conflict.
- Does clicking a row find the right herdr pane?
- Yes. AgentNotch asks herdr which pane is running that session, tells herdr to focus it, then brings herdr's terminal tab forward. You land on the agent you clicked, not on whichever pane you left focused.
- What happens if I've detached from herdr?
- The pane is focused anyway, so it's the one waiting for you when you reattach. There's no terminal window on screen to bring forward, and AgentNotch doesn't guess at one.
- Does AgentNotch read my code when I use herdr?
- No. It reads session state only, and it never reads your code or touches your API keys.
